3,000 families, stepping over 3 million steps!
3,000 families, stepping over 3 millions steps, and not even the rain could stop these kids from finishing!
On the 18th of June 2017, the community of Mosman turned Mosman Public School and its surrounding streets into the family fun run event of the year.
The Mini-Mos Marathon, now in its 35th year, has been encouraging families of all sizes, to have fun with fitness. The fun run event features a not so-easy 10km fast paced run, followed by the 5km intermediate race and then the family friendly 2km race, allowing any fitness level to participate.
ELANATION was involved in this year’s fun run as the sponsor of the Community Spirit Award. The Community Spirit Award was awarded to children who reflected the spirit of the Mini-Mos. They needed to show initiative in caring, thoughtfulness and to be mindful of how they can help others. They should alway try their best and be committed to everything they do. They are the good sports, the team players and the children that show courage and dedication that inspires everyone around them.

Time to start training!
The local Mosman Vision Gym joined forces and started training the children 6 weeks prior to the run commencing. The kids were taught warming up and cooling down exercises, correct running posture, techniques and styles, the importance of health and most importantly to make sure they were always having FUN. Filled with games and fun running drills, the kids progressed through the weeks and got better as they went along. ELANATION watched the children’s progress through this 6-week boot camp, and what can we say – we were blown away by their commitment.
Race day, are you all ready!
The day started early, with all the volunteers hard at work putting together the last minute touches to the racetrack. The registration area was pumping with eager racers putting their bibs on and warming up in the provided areas. Even though it was extremely chilly and raining, these runners weren’t deterred. The kitchen and BBQ area was firing up and the water was coming in in the truckloads.
– Mini Mos Marathon Kids Start Line and Top 3 girls in the 5km run –
6.50am rolled around and the 10km runners took their place at the starting line. On your marks, get set and they were off. To our surprise and delight, kids as young as 7 participated in this run. Running alongside their parents, these kids just didn’t give up. They kept running there hardest all the way to the finish line, well done kids!
Next was the 5km run.
More kids flocked to the start line for this race, which was extremely impressive considering the many hills and windy roads they were about to endure. And once again, they were off. In under an hour the 4 top females had crossed the finish line. Can you believe that 3 of these females were under 10 years of age, what an amazing achievement. Well-done girls!
Next was the race ELANATION was waiting for, the 2km family fun run. Over 1,000 families lined up in their age group to take advantage of the warming up session put on by the local fitness gym, the atmosphere was buzzing.
Kids as young as 4 years old were ready to take on the 2km track. As the gun went off, the rain came down. But this did not stop our families from running their little hearts out. Kids were dressed up in colourful outfits, parents were pushing prams, and one special dad was on crutches hopping his way through the track, just so he could run with his 5 year old son. What dedication and determination from all these families, and what community spirit there was by all.
