“If I hop on a plane will I get my steps up?”
Building a community of kids that have a fun and rewarding experience within Elanation was always our team’s vision. This is why we made sure our customers (children) were a part of our design, development and execution process every step of the way.
We selected two groups of children across Sydney, that were all different ages (5- 12 years) and backgrounds to participate in two different stages of Elanation’s development.
Our first group of children spent a month with us, wearing and testing out 3 different IoT devices (Internet of Things). They would wear and use the different devices daily to school, after school activities and at sport on the weekend. Daily our chosen children would connect their movement to our very raw beta platform. The platform was set up to monitor where children liked to hang out online and how they liked to be rewarded for their exercise and movement.
Having input from our customers was something we were extremely passionate about. It doesn’t matter how well you know your market (children), they always have something to teach you. We were blown away by their input and excitement for what Elanation was building. The fact we were building a whole world just for them to play in (both physically and digitally) was something that excited them all.
Our community of kids say the funniest things!
“My coach said I couldn’t wear it on the soccer field so I put a sweatband over my ETURBO. I don’t want to loose my steps.” “Can I strap it to my dog and he does the work for me?” “Can we make a device I can strap to my boat? Then I can always gain points.” “What if I just shake my hand up and down. Will Elanation know I’m cheating?”
Our second groups of children participated in the development of the ELANATION Virtual World and final ETURBO design. The first purpose was to gain further insight about how children use the internet today, where they hang out, how they interact and why they chose to hang out on those platforms. Interestingly a lot of children hang out on social platforms that their parents and teachers don’t know about. The most popular reasons for this was to gain virtual coins to play lots of games for free and to just be a part of something online in a social capacity.
The second purpose was to gain insight into look and feel of the Virtual World, the characters and how reward would play a part in the Physical-Digital Play cycle. We conducted a lot of tests and experiments surrounding this.
We learnt a lot from our community of children, and we continue to learn from them everyday.
ELANATION would like to take this opportunity to thank our community of families that participated in our development processes.
What our community of parents are saying!
“This is so amazing. Our kids have asked to walk to and from school everyday now.” ”They love how their exercise means something. The daily videos has definitely been a talking point around the dinner table.”“My child isn’t the most athletic child. It has been great to watch her daily habits changing due to the ETURBO.Now that her steps mean unlocking rewards, she is moving like I’ve never seen her move. Thank you Elanation”.
